Students will be invited to celebrate their achievements and collect their certificates at the Cambridge annual awards ceremony on 28th February 2019 in Jakarta. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>SEAMO Awards<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Southeast Asian Mathematical Olympiad (SEAMO) is a worldwide math competition held annually by the Institute of Mathematical Olympiads (TCIMO). \u00a0\u00a0The Preliminary Round was held on the 6th October 2018. <\/span><b><i>SIS-PIK students won 1 Gold, 3 SIlver and 3 Bronze awards<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All medalist are qualified to join the SEAMO finals in Singapore on January 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>JISMO<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">JISMO refers to the Japan International Science and Mathematics (JISMO) competitions that take place annually. Our students compete in both the Science and Math categories.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Results from JISMO Mathematics <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are delighted to announce that our students received <\/span><b><i>7 Ruby, 10 Emerald, and 19 Sapphire <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">awards in the JISMO Autumn 2018 competition. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Results from JISMO Science <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are very pleased to share that our students received <\/span><b><i>6 Ruby, 13 Emerald, and 6 Sapphire awards<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b><i>2 students were awarded Legend One Star Awards, and SIS-PIK earned 2 bronze trophies<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>INTERNATIONAL THAILAND MATHEMATICS COMPETITION<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Saturday 10th November, students competed for the International Thailand Mathematics Competition (ITMC) National Round. \u00a0Our students were awarded <\/span><b><i>2 Silver, 5 Bronze and 3 Participation<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> prizes. \u00a0All awardees are eligible to enter the International Exam Round on 8 to 12 February 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>THE WORLD SCHOLAR\u2019S CUP<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the 9th of November, nine of our Secondary students traveled to <\/span><b>Yale University, USA<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to take part in the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tournament of Champions<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the World Scholar\u2019s Cup. There were 1200 participants in the Junior Division from 58 countries around the world. \u00a0The competition was fierce! Our scholars competed in the following events: team debate, collaborative writing, scholar\u2019s challenge and scholar\u2019s bowl. They have intensely studied six subjects in the WSC 2018 curriculum under the theme: An Entangled World &#8211; Special Area (Human Relationships), History (History of Diplomacy), Art &amp; Music (Braving the Distance), Science (The Science of Memory), Social Studies (Black Markets) and Literature (Voices of the Inseparable).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Three teams from SISPIK participated in the tournament, and students were awarded: \u00a0<\/span><b><i>27 Gold medals and 30 Silver medals. \u00a0<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A total of <\/span><b>57 medals for Team SIS-PIK<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>BASKETBALL<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A huge congratulations to our basketballers at the SMAK 6 Penabur Cup in October. <\/span><b><i>Our boys very bravely fought for third place<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. They played like Lions, with a strong offence, and great team spirit. However, the tournament belonged to our <\/span><b><i>Girls team who stormed to first place.<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The girls demonstrate great sportsmanship and are role models for our student body. How students deal with the emotions of winning and even losing, are important to build character. We are so proud SIS-PIK is garnering a reputation as the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">school of sportsmanship<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>SWIMMING<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A huge congratulations to our students who competed in the <\/span><b>Beacon Academy<\/b> <b>Swimming Competition <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saturday 10th November. \u00a0The training and long term efforts of our swimmers reminds us of the words of Pat Riley \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d \u00a0SISPIK swimmers earned <\/span><b><i>2 Bronze medals.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>WRITING<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In October of this year, our English Language A students in JC1 entered an essay writing contest. \u00a0Two of our students reached the final round! On October 26th at the Pullman Hotel Thamrin<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> our finalists had <\/span><b>to present for 5 mins<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> based on the ideas and concepts brought forth in the essay. \u00a0\u00a0I am pleased to share that out over 200 finalists, two of JC1 came in the top 5.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff; font-size: 14pt;\"><b><i>MOVING FROM ASPIRATIONAL TO INTENTIONAL: \u00a0Transformative learning at SIS-PIK<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inspired learning means <\/span><b><i>We Engage; We Inspire; We Empower. <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please read below how we are moving<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">aspirational to intentional<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through transformational learning experiences<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><b>We Engage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">we create learning experiences that make students excited to learn.<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>PRESCHOOL SPORTS DAY &#8211; SATURDAY, 10 NOVEMBER 2018<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A highlight every year, is our Sports Day for our wonderful preschoolers. The Sports Day is a great chance for fun and bonding for the school staff, children and their families. Preschoolers enjoy the challenge of competition in a warm and gentle way. \u00a0Every child takes home a participation medal &#8211; complete with a big hug from Mum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>K2 SALAD DAY November 23rd<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The K2 children had a Salad Day to learn about Glow Foods. Glow Foods comprise of lots of nutrients to ensure shiny hair and sparkly eyes. The children enjoyed making fruit salad and a vegetable salad. The activity was a great way to encourage children to be healthy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>IDP &#8211; INTERDISCIPLINARY PROJECTS FOR SECONDARY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tell me, and I will forget. Show me, and I may remember. Involve me, and I will understand. \u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This quote is as relevant today, as it was when it was first uttered by Confucius in around 450 BC. \u00a0Our Secondary Science department certainly took this quote to heart when developing the IDP for this semester. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Friday the 26<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of October, Secondary students presented their solutions to the energy crisis. \u00a0Students were challenged to find a solution to our dwindling supplies of fossil fuels. How can we continue to power our planet? The ideas from our students were amazing. One team looked at <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">paving slabs to convert energy from people&#8217;s footsteps into small amounts of electrical power. Another produced an enhanced greenhouse, that increased the interior temperature significantly. The ideas were so creative and well-thought out. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each class developed a working model of sustainable energy. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our winning Homerooms include:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Lower Secondary: Secondary 2B.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The team demonstrated a way to extract energy from algae oil. The model created by the students was quite incredible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Upper Secondary: Secondary 4B.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cap-tura<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. A hat-like device to extract body heat from the head which could be used as an energy source. An incredibly creative idea that captures the hearts of the judges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our Secondary Science teachers pass on their love and passion for Science by giving our students the opportunity to dream, create and excel. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The focus on inquiry and scientific discovery encourages a love for learning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><b>We Inspire<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">we create learning experience that make students want to learn more.<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>All Jakarta Honor Orchestra at SPH on Saturday 10th of November<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our orchestra was incredibly honoured to be invited to join the very best performers in Jakarta as part of All Jakarta Honor Orchestra at SPH on Saturday 10th of November. Our musicians represented SIS-PIK proudly, and the performance was delightful. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>MANDARIN SHOW AND TELL<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In November our pre-schoolers hosted the Mandarin Show and Tell. All our N2, K1 and K2 children performed in front of a very supportive audience of parents and teachers. \u00a0The children very successfully showcased what they have learned in Mandarin lessons. The objective of this activity is to develop the children\u2019s creative expressions, confidence and self-esteem in the form of : greetings in Mandarin, singing Mandarin songs or rhymes and playing short story drama. The performances were wonderful, and the children were incredibly proud to show what they had learned. Parents were joyously surprised to see how much the children had learned Mandarin language. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><b>We Empower<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">we create learners who to create their own learning experiences.<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>HALLOWEEN BAZAAR 3rd NOVEMBER<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our students have also been working hard to investigate fun and interesting ways to fundraise. \u00a0The Halloween Bazaar was a great success, and our students should be congratulated. This is an entirely student-driven initiative that involves all students from Sec 1 to JC2. \u00a0The students raised over 8 million for SISwa Peduli Bangsa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>GREEN WEEK &#8211; 5th &#8211; 9th November<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Week was another important student-led initiative, and demonstrates the warm and caring leadership from our JC. \u00a0Our JC want to inspire a sustainable Green Movement in the school. They worked with the Primary students to help them understand the importance of recycling and even made them all vegetarians for a day! I am very pleased to see the students try to create the very best school they can.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>FAMILY DAY BAZAAR &#8211; SATURDAY, 10 NOVEMBER 2018<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our annual SIS-PIK Family Day Bazaar came together on Saturday, 10 November 2018. \u00a0This a very special day, when the whole school comes together to raise funds for our school charity; <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Siswa Peduli Bangsa.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0All students from P4 to JC1 are involved; putting together stalls, creating performances in order to raise money. \u00a0The theme for this year was: Beautiful Indonesia; Celebrating the beauty of Indonesia through caring for our environment (Go Green); a wonderful way to celebrate the end of Green Week. \u00a0The day was very special with songs and dances performed in the Multi Purpose Hall (MPH). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Watch us as we continue to grow and improve towards<\/span><\/i> <b><i>Greater Heights.<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2018 was a wonderful year at SIS-PIK!\u00a0 Find out more about our incredible students.<br \/>\nCambridge Awards<br \/>\nI are delighted to share with you;<br \/>\nNicolas Sugandi has won the &#8220;Top in the World&#8221; award for IGCSE Additional Mathematics and He Wen Huang has won the &#8220;Top in Indonesia&#8221; award for IGCSE Chinese as Second Language.
