SIS Bandung Makes History with SIS Hoop Fest

Established in May 2024, SIS Bandung is one of the newest campuses within the SIS Group of Schools. In a short time, the school has begun to make its mark in Bandung, not only through academic learning but also by creating meaningful opportunities for student development beyond the classroom.
One of the most notable milestones so far is the launch of SIS Hoop Fest, a basketball event that has quickly grown into a signature program for the school and the wider SIS community.
The Beginning of SIS Hoop Fest
Basketball is a popular sport among students in Bandung, yet structured competitions for younger age groups remain limited. Recognising this gap, SIS Bandung took the initiative to create a platform where primary school students could experience organised competition in a positive and supportive environment.
On 27 and 28 February 2025, SIS Bandung hosted its first SIS Hoop Fest, a five on five basketball tournament for primary school students. The event welcomed eight primary schools from across Bandung and brought together young athletes who rarely had access to competitions of this level.
The tournament received an enthusiastic response from students, teachers, and parents. Beyond the games themselves, SIS Hoop Fest promoted teamwork, discipline, confidence, and sportsmanship. It also helped spark a stronger basketball culture among primary school students in the city.
What started as a single event soon became something more meaningful. SIS Hoop Fest was no longer just a tournament, but the beginning of a growing sports movement.
From Local Initiative to Signature Program
Following the success of the first event, SIS Hoop Fest gained recognition within the SIS Group of Schools. The program is now expanding beyond Bandung and becoming an inter school platform that connects students across different SIS campuses.
On 29 and 30 January 2026, SIS Hoop Fest will return on a larger scale. This upcoming edition will feature a three on three basketball tournament and will involve students from Upper Primary and Lower Secondary levels. Seven SIS schools are expected to participate.
The three on three format reflects modern basketball trends and encourages fast decision making, teamwork, and strategic thinking. These skills align closely with the SIS approach to holistic education, where learning extends beyond academics into character building and real world skills.
Supporting Basketball Development for K-12 Students
While basketball competitions are more commonly available for older students, opportunities for Primary and Middle School athletes remain limited in Bandung. Programs like SIS Hoop Fest help fill this gap by offering structured, age appropriate competitions in a well organised setting.
Through SIS Hoop Fest, SIS Bandung supports early talent development, leadership skills, confidence building, and healthy competition. The event also strengthens relationships between schools, families, and the wider community.
By providing consistent platforms for students to compete and grow, SIS Bandung contributes to the long term development of basketball for K to 12 students in Bandung.
Looking Ahead
SIS Hoop Fest reflects SIS Bandung’s commitment to nurturing well rounded students and creating a positive impact beyond the classroom. From its establishment in May 2024 to becoming the initiator of a growing sports tradition, SIS Bandung has shown how vision and collaboration can create lasting value for students.
As SIS Hoop Fest continues to grow, SIS Bandung looks forward to welcoming more schools, inspiring more young athletes, and strengthening the basketball ecosystem across Bandung and the SIS Group of Schools.
From a new campus to a growing legacy, SIS Bandung is just getting started.
