Throughout November, students and staff engaged in meaningful events that highlight the school’s dedication to academic excellence, national identity, and global mindedness.

TKA National Academic Test Highlights Student Readiness

This month many JC2 students took part in the TKA (Tes Kompetensi Akademik), a national level academic test that evaluates core subject competencies and higher education readiness. The TKA is an important benchmark for students across Indonesia. We are pleased to share that our students performed admirably, demonstrating strong academic foundation and preparedness for university pathways.

Successful SPK Accreditation for All School Levels

Over the past three weeks SIS Medan completed the SPK accreditation process for Preschool, Primary, Secondary, and Junior College. The SPK (Satuan Pendidikan Kerjasama accreditation) by BAN PAUD dan Pendidikan Dasar dan Menengah is a government quality assurance process that evaluates curriculum, teaching quality, school leadership, and student development.

This accreditation confirms that SIS Medan meets national standards while upholding international expectations for teaching and learning. Congratulations to Ms Nani Manik, Head of National Affairs at SIS Medan, and her team for their commitment and hard work.

Promoting Language and Culture at Festival Handai Taulan II

Congratulations to Niha from Primary 6 who represented SIS Medan at Festival Handai Taulan II 2025, hosted by the BIPA Program at the University of North Sumatra.

The festival theme, Friendship as a Bridge of Civilization From Local to Global, promotes cultural exchange and language appreciation. Our international students had the opportunity to showcase their Bahasa Indonesia skills and deepen their understanding of Indonesian culture. This experience reflects the school’s commitment to nurturing global learners who value both local heritage and international perspectives.

Honoring National Heroes Day and Remembrance Day

National Heroes Day or Hari Pahlawan is commemorated every year on November 10 to honor those who fought for Indonesia’s independence. Across Indonesia this day is a powerful reminder of courage, sacrifice, and national unity.
At SIS Medan the following day teachers from Commonwealth countries including Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia wore poppies for Remembrance Day. JC students explored the similarities between these two days and reflected on how different cultures honor their heroes. This activity supported a deeper understanding of global citizenship and shared values.

Anti Bullying Week Encourages Students to Use Their Power for Good

From November 10 to 14 SIS Medan observed Anti Bullying Week with a series of activities designed to create a safe and supportive school environment. The theme Power For Good encouraged students to take positive action in their community.
Key activities included Odd Socks Day to celebrate acceptance, Statement Shirt Day to raise awareness, Twinning Shirt Day to highlight friendship, Group Shirt Day to build belonging, and Thank You Letter Day to promote gratitude.

Our school counselor, Ms Jennifer, also hosted a parent coffee house to discuss effective bullying prevention strategies and strengthen home school collaboration. This united effort helped students understand the importance of kindness, respect, and responsible behavior.
