SIS Pantai Indah Kapuk: What Makes a Great School?

I often ponder the question what makes a great school? I want to share with you a book I have read which is very inspiring. It is called “Creating Innovators. The Making of Young People who will Change the World.” As a school, this is a great question for us to ask; how can we create young people who can change the world? Wagner argues that social innovation is of importance equal to technological innovation. Our future leaders will be ones who solve social problems creatively, collaboratively, and sustainably. Creative innovators will be required to societies biggest problems such as global climate change, world peace and pollution.
The question becomes, how can we create students who will be future leaders who can change the world? What would our school look like, if we want to create future leaders and creative innovators?
Dr Wagner, asks the question; where does it start? How can we inspire students with the desire to change the world, and how can we help them build the skills to make those changes happen? Dr. Wagner identifies in his books the central tenant in the development of every creative innovator: Passion. He explains that the journey of innovative leadership begins with play, the activities young people find most fun, engaging, even whimsical, and then advances into an energizing and motivating passion, finally flowering as a deep and abiding purpose. The path to success lies in students creating their own personal journey of play to passion to purpose.
We are a school which wishes to stretch beyond our academic program. We want to give our students opportunities to explore their passions beyond the classroom through our school camps, learning journeys and our CCA program. Currently, we are in the selection process for our prefects. Listening to our students explain how they will wish to become student leaders is incredibly inspiring. Their passion drives their purpose. I want to thank all the parents for supporting all of our programs. By allowing students to explore, try out new activities, take risks, and take part in new events and programs – our students will grow from play to passion to purpose.
As always, we endevour to improve. We constantly evaluate, and review our progress in our quest to become a great school. It is important that this process is a partnership with our parents. As always, we welcome your input and feedback.
