SIS Pantai Indah Kapuk: A Culture of Giving

It has been very sad to hear of the recent earthquake and tsunami devastating Palu and Donggala.  Our new school term opened with a moving, full school assembly to remember the fallen in Sulawesi.  As a school we stood united, in a minute of silence, to remember those who lost their lives.  This is yet another heart breaking earthquake, one in a series of many, shaking Indonesia to its core.  The ceremony was incredibly touching.  Our teachers and non teaching staff shared prayers from all the religions represented at SISPIK.  We stood united in prayer, faith and peace.

As we stood in silence to remember those who have lost homes, loved ones and even their lives – amongst the despair and sadness of the ruins of Sulawesi, I felt glimmer of hope.  I felt hopeful because even in our darkest moments, the love of our SISPIK community thrives.  I have an inbox of emails from students keen to fundraise, eager to help and excited to be part of rebuilding Sulawesi.  Our students care deeply for those less fortunate than themselves.  They care fervently for their fellow Indonesians facing adversity and hardship.  At every opportunity – they want to extend a caring hand to help.

I thank our parents for entrusting us with your children each day.  We are a school joyously filled by children who want to give back. Our children strive to make the world a better place. I feel incredibly proud to be part of SISPIK.

An update on our fundraising efforts

We would sincerely like to thank you for your support for our appeal for the Lombok earthquake.   We raised almost 85 million rupiah!  We appreciate the very generous support from our SISPIK community.  Over the October break, a team of JC students, Mr Guntur and Ms Agus visited Lombok to distribute your donations. Please read the attachment below to find out more about their trip.   In an effort to create greater clarity and transparency, please see the report below to see where your very generous donations have gone.

As you may be aware, another devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami have hit the island of the Suliwasi.   Although the entire island was affected, the towns of Palu and Donggala were decimated. Our students have responded with love and care for the people of Suliwasi. At every opportunity – they have extended a caring hand to help. Our Secondary students held a bake sale, and raised over 8 million rupiah.  Our Primary students held a garage sale, and not only managed to declutter their toy boxes, but also raised over 11 million rupiah.  Please stay tuned to find out more about our up coming Family Day Bazaar, and Charity Performance.
