SIS Classic White Polo Shirt

At the end of the 19th Century, outdoor activities became important for the British ruling class. Jodhpur pants and polo shirts became part of the wardrobe for horse-related sports. The two garments were brought back from India by the British, along with the game of polo. A picture shot at the end of the 19th century, presumably in India shows players wearing a striped polo shirt.
René Lacoste, the French seven-time Grand Slam tennis champion, felt that the stiff tennis attire was too cumbersome and uncomfortable. He designed a white, short-sleeved, loosely-knit piqué cotton (he called the cotton weave jersey petit piqué) shirt with an unstarched, flat, protruding collar, a buttoned placket, and a shirt-tail longer in back than in front (known today as a “tennis tail”; see below), which he first wore at the 1926 U.S. Open championship.
A polo shirt is a form of shirt with a collar, a placket neckline with typically two or three buttons, and an optional pocket. Polo shirts are usually short sleeved; they were originally used by polo players during the 1920s.
Polo shirts are usually made of knitted cotton (rather than woven cloth), usually a Piqué knit, or less commonly an interlock knit (the latter used frequently, though not exclusively, with pima cotton polos), or using other fibers such as silk, merino wool, synthetic fibers, or blends of natural and synthetic fibers. A dress-length version of the shirt is called a polo dress.

SIS Classic Black Sweatpant

The first pair of sweatpants was introduced in the 1920s by Émile Camuset, the founder of Le Coq Sportif. The sweatpants were simple knitted gray jersey pants that allowed athletes to stretch and run comfortably.
Sweatpants are a casual variety of soft trousers intended for comfort or athletic purposes, although they are now worn in many different situations, available in many fashionable styles and are worn in a variety of public situations. Traditionally it’s quite “baggy” and loose, sweatpants are now also available in more form-fitting shapes, because of their comfort and fashion, they have become a popular choice of clothing.

SIS Red and White Football Jersey

The first uniform kits began to appear around 1870, the introduction of the English FA Cup in 1871-72 marked a turning point as it required all participating teams to play by the FA Rules.
Birmingham Association’s appearance in the FA Cup to write in 1879:
“In football it is a most essential point that the members of one team should be clearly distinguished from those of the other. The only way this can be affected is for each club to have a distinct uniform as the diversity of dress displayed yesterday not only confused the members of the team but the spectators were quite unable to say whether a man belonged to one team or the other.”
