SIS Parent Letter re Closure

Dear Parents,

I hope this note finds you all in good health. SIS’ mission has always been about prioritizing our learners and personalised learning. This has always been our guiding principle as we face the challenges brought about by Covid-19 in Indonesia. We have anticipated these challenges and have worked to carefully and rigorously implement our Covid-19 7-Point Response Plan while evaluating daily developments in Indonesia. We have now escalated our response to Stage 5.

Many city governments in Indonesia have announced the closure of schools until March 29. Learning at SIS Schools will recommence on March 23 at the end of our Term break as in our calendar but students will only physically return to school on April 6.

How does this work?

SIS Schools will stop in-school classes for the weeks starting March 23 and March 30 and go to distance learning for 2-weeks, and reopen in-school classes on April 6. During these first 2 weeks of Term 4, we will be introducing a New Way of Learning at SIS. Teachers have been preparing for the possibility of distance education for some time.

You will receive clear information about this SIS New Way of Learning and how it will benefit our students. We intend that most students will be able to stay up-to-date in all core subjects during this 2-week period.

The most important thing for parents to understand is that it is essential that your children stay at home as much as possible from March 23 to April 5 and avoid public places and social events. Social distancing and personal hygiene are being advocated by governments everywhere. Challenging times call for new and innovative measures, and we need parents to ensure that their children minimise the risk of infection which could then impact our whole community.

Furthermore, as you know the government added two extra days (May 28-29) for the Lebaran holidays. As a result, to avoid the unnecessary hassle of having to return to school after the Lebaran break on June 2, we will be ending school on May 20 to allow people to travel more freely during the Lebaran holidays without having to worry about coming back to potential self-quarantine requirements of 14-days after the holidays. We will advise specific arrangements for exams and the end-of-year activities. In order to make up for the lost learning time, we will implement compulsory Saturday classes for certain school levels during the period from April to May.

We are all aware that the SIS New Way of Learning (distance education) from March 23 to April 5 and Saturday classes (if applicable) will cause some challenges for certain families and certainly for teachers and staff as well. However, we have carefully put together this plan in order to help protect our students while also ensuring that they stay up to date with their learning.

Feel free to contact me if you have any queries.

Yours sincerely,

SIS Group of Schools Board
