kindergartenn learning

Written by: Ms Zuria Kausari – Kindergarten Teacher

“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” — Albert Einstein

At SIS Palembang, we believe that meaningful learning happens when students are actively engaged in exploring the world around them. In Kindergarten 2, students embarked on an exciting exploration through the Discovery of the World learning experience, where they investigated plants, animals, and nature through hands-on experiences.

Through the exploration of real-life objects, nature-based learning experiences, meaningful interactions, and opportunities to nurture curiosity and confidence, students developed a deeper appreciation of the natural world. These engaging experiences helped them strengthen their understanding of how living things grow, change, and interact with their environment.

Key Learning Highlights in Kindergarten

1. Exploring Real-Life Objects

One of the most exciting parts of the learning experience was the opportunity for students to explore a variety of real-life objects related to plants and animals. Through these authentic materials and experiences, students were able to observe and explore real animals up close. By closely examining different animals, students learned about their characteristics, habitats, and needs. They were encouraged to ask questions, make observations, and share their discoveries with their peers. These authentic learning experiences sparked curiosity and excitement, helping students develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the living world around them.

To make learning even more engaging and enjoyable, students participated in a variety of hands-on craft activities related to plants and animals. They created artworks and models that helped reinforce their understanding of key concepts, such as the parts of a plant and the characteristics of different animals. These activities allowed students to express their creativity while strengthening their fine motor skills and understanding of the topics being explored. Through collaborative conversations, hands-on investigations, and craft-making experiences, students became more actively involved in the learning process and gained confidence in sharing their observations and ideas with others.

2. Learning through Nature Exploration

Learning about plants and animals provided students with exciting opportunities to explore the wonders of the natural world. Through observation, investigation, and discovery, students gained valuable insights into how living things grow, change, and depend on their environment.

Throughout this learning experience, students developed their understanding of living things by exploring the characteristics, needs, and life cycles of plants and animals. They learned about the different parts of plants, how living things grow and change, and the important role nature plays in our daily lives. Through inquiry-based discussions and hands-on investigations, students strengthened their observation skills, critical thinking abilities, and scientific understanding.

One of the most exciting experiences for students was planting their own seeds and caring for their plants. Students observed how their plants changed over time, learned what plants need to grow, and recorded their observations. This hands-on activity helped them develop responsibility while deepening their understanding of plant growth and life cycles.

3. Building Meaningful Connections

Meaningful interactions between teachers and students were at the heart of this learning experience. Teachers guided students’ exploration through thoughtful questioning, discussions, and opportunities for reflection. These interactions encouraged students to think deeply, make connections to their own experiences, and confidently express their ideas and discoveries. Teachers also provided ongoing support and encouragement, helping students develop curiosity, communication skills, and a positive attitude toward learning. Through collaborative conversations and hands-on activities, students became more engaged in the learning process and gained confidence in sharing their observations and understanding with others.

These positive learning interactions created a supportive classroom environment where students felt comfortable asking questions, sharing their ideas, and learning from one another. As a result, students became more independent learners and actively participated in discussions, investigations, and classroom activities throughout the learning experience.

4. Growing Curiosity and Confidence

One of the most rewarding outcomes was witnessing the students’ growing enthusiasm for learning. Their curiosity flourished as they eagerly explored new concepts, used scientific vocabulary in their discussions, and demonstrated increasing confidence in sharing their knowledge with others. More importantly, students developed a greater appreciation for the natural world and an understanding of the importance of caring for living things.

A particularly memorable moment took place during the National Education Day celebration. One of our Kindergarten 2 students confidently recited a poem about the life cycle of a tree. The student beautifully described the journey of a tiny seed growing into a strong and flourishing tree. The performance demonstrated not only a clear understanding of the concept but also creativity, confidence, and effective communication skills.

This special presentation highlighted the meaningful connections students made across different areas of learning. By combining scientific knowledge with literacy and performance, the student was able to showcase learning in a creative and engaging way. The performance was a proud moment for the entire school community and reflected the confidence and enthusiasm that SIS Palembang strives to nurture in every learner.

At SIS Palembang, we are committed to nurturing curious, confident, and lifelong learners. Through meaningful learning experiences, our Kindergarten 2 students continue to develop the knowledge, skills, and character needed to thrive. We are proud of their growth and excited to support their ongoing journey of discovery.
