15 Years of Impact

Getting Ready for This Year’s FT/IFC Transformational Business Awards

For 15-years the Financial Times of London and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, have gathered senior investors, innovators, social entrepreneurs and other thought leaders for a major awards event – the Financial Times/International Finance Corporation Transformational and Business Awards.

The annual awards honour those whose capital, technology and ideas are contributing to substantive progress towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

The SIS Group of Schools was truly honored to win the 2019 award for “Transformational Solutions In Education, Knowledge And Skills” for its work to ensure access to high quality education is increasingly available and affordable for families across South East Asia. Our Founder and CEO, Jaspal Sidhu, was onhand for the ceremony in London to accept the award last year and had this to say on the experience:

On behalf of everyone at the SIS Group of Schools, we wish to congratulate this year’s nominees and their most excellent work. You can learn more about their efforts at the links below:

1 – Bookers entrepreneurial and apprenticeship programme

2 – Dream Viet Education’s (Kyna) online education programmes for children

3 – Made by Tiny Miracles and empowerment initiative

4 – Muse by SABAQ K5 digital learning system

Of course, we also wish to heartily congratulate the 2020 winner of this prestigious award: The Vodafone Foundation working with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Their work to expand Instant Network Schools to benefit more than 500,000 young refugees is a true humanitarian achievement.

“We are very proud of our partnership with the Vodafone Foundation. Their continued commitment will help refugees in some of the most challenging environments, opening a window to the world through connected learning. Education is crucial in offering refugees the chance to rebuild their lives. This expanded partnership will help break barriers to education, allowing refugees to better shape their own futures.”
– United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi

Across categories the nominees and winners are working to develop low-carbon urban infrastructure, deliver healthcare and education, assure food and water security, boost inclusion, and generally transform the development landscape.

Everyone at SIS schools – especially students – are proud to help the United Nations in their continuing efforts to achieve the 17 interlinked Sustainability Goals and we will continue to look for innovative ways to transform our world for the better.

Resilient children have a greater chance of succeeding, both personally and professionally. Parents can help their children achieve resilience to a certain level, but teachers and schools also play a major role in this. International schools focus on teaching resilience in children by letting them learn by failing in a safe learning environment.
